Individual User Features

The Individual User Features allow teachers and students to personalise the interface for themselves. Each user can upload profile information, showcase their work or other documents in the Portfolio areas, and find their peers online by exploring the Student Lists.

Student Lists

This is an area where students can find a list of their peers in the online community.

Profiles

The Profiles area is where students can display both an image and some more information about themselves. It is a simple way for students to get to know each other individually online.

Portfolio

The Portfolio area within each Profile space acts as a personal gallery where students can display and show their personal work to the rest of the online community.

Communal Features

The Omnium Software incorporates many Communal Features where students and teachers can directly interact and engage with each other within the e-learning environment.

Students can view common news and announcements, such as a change in an assessment deadline, or lesson location. Students can contribute to topics or threads in the discussion forums - a great way to facilitate collaboration, continue classroom discussions or to provide support during assessment periods. Students can also use the Communal Features to access lecture notes, readings, guides, policy documents, photos, timetables, contact lists, or useful links.

Login

The Omnium Software is protected with a secure Login/Logout protocol.

Welcome

The Welcome page provides a brief explanatory statement about the course or education program to any student, lecturer, teacher or visitor.

News & Announcements

This area shows news and announcements posted by the teacher, lecturer or administrator related day to day classroom activities. These can also be auto-emailed to students or generate an RSS feed.

Discussion Forums

Within Discussion Forums, students can create, comment or contribute to any number of topics of discussion. These can be subscribed to individually by students or generate an RSS feed.

Galleries

Galleries are public viewing spaces where selected photos and other images are showcased for or by students in the online community.

Resources

This is an area where students can find information posted for download in relation to course activities such as policy documents, outlines, curriculums and other information.

Lectures

This is where teachers and administrators can post relevant lecture notes or additional readings for a course.

Assignments

This is where teachers and lecturers can upload current guides, outcomes and marking criteria in relation to the assessments for a course.

Links

In this area, useful and relevant URL's are available for all students. Any member of the community can offer suggested links so long as the teacher, lecturer or administrator approves them.

Team Features (Full version)

Many educational bodies require that students are divided into smaller groups, teams or classes. The Team Features enable groups of students to have a space to communicate, collaborate and exchange ideas in a private area. This is ideal in creating separate year or semester groups, tutorial groups, or teams for group work.

Team Lists

This is a list of all teams, years or tutorial groups and their members within the online community.

Team Notices

The teacher, lecturer or administrator can post regular notices and announcements to all teams or just their specific team.

Other Member’s Profiles

In this area, students can get to know each other on a more personal level by viewing each other's individual personal profiles.

Team Pin-Up Walls

This space is used for works in progress and final works produced by a team, class or year group to be displayed and reviewed solely with their team.

Team File Sharing

The Team file sharing feature allows the storage of large files of works in progress that the entire team, class or year group can access and continue working on.

Team Discussion Forums

This is an area where team members can contribute to discussions about specific issues, upcoming events and other topics related to their team.

Live Features ^*

The Live Features enable students and teachers in different locations to chat, exchange ideas or feedback and collaborate in real-time. These live features foster both a unique, personal and interactive online learning environment and cohesive working relationships between teachers and students.

Time Information

As students and teachers may be located regionally or worldwide, this feature enables users to pinpoint the local time of others in the community.

Users Online

The Users Online tool informs users who else is currently online within the community at a glance.

Chat Information and Invitations ^*

Users can check the chat status of other users or invite a students for a live-chat session. Great for team work!

Live Chat Rooms ^*

Using the Chat feature, students and teachers can keep in touch with each other through real-time text-based conversations.
